Te Rerehua and Sam stay with their grandmother and love to walk the grey stones of Te Mata Hapuku beach. Until, one night out eeling, as they lay on the stones, looking up into the inky dark sky they discover the stars of Matariki – Pohutukawa and Hiwa-i-te-Rangi are missing! They soon find the mischievous group of patupaiarehe have taken them and the stars need to be returned so all would know it was Matariki time.

Inspired by childhood memories, this hauntingly beautiful story by award-winning journalist, Miriama Kamo is brought to life by family friend and notable artist, Zak Waipara.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book are donated to the restoration of the lake, Te Roto o Waiwera.
